The Study

Many students pursuing college take longer than four years to graduate, step away from their studies for a time, or leave for the long term without completing a degree. Research shows that approximately 30% of students take breaks in their enrollment, and about 31% do not complete a degree within eight years. Altogether, more than 30 million adults in the United States fall into the category of having “some college, but no degree.”

Despite the size and importance of this group, most research on higher education focuses on students who complete their degrees. As a result, less is known about the college decision-making processes and life experiences of students who take less straightforward paths.

This study addresses that gap. By participating, you will contribute valuable insights that can help students and their families, colleges, policymakers, and researchers better understand your experiences, helping to support current and former students in achieving educational and life goals.
